Ciné Day Vintage et La nouveauté
Ciné Day is a new concept by Alliance Française Dubai this year. Twice a month, Alliance Française Dubai invite you to this new rendezvous to broaden your French cinematographic culture.
The first movie of the month, 'Ciné Day Vintage', is a Classic, ranging from François Truffaut to Louis De Funes. Time to discover French vintage movies that can be surprisingly funny and insolent. The second film of the month, “La nouveauté” (New This Month) is a recent released movie. Get ready to laugh and/or cry with today’s famous French actors.
In February and March on the occasion of the Women’s Forum in Dubai, Ciné Day will focus on women in French cinema.
Le Mépris (‘Contempt’) – Jean-Luc Godard -1963 - 1h50
American film producer Jeremy Prokosch (Jack Palance) hires respected Austrian director Fritz Lang (playing himself) to direct a film adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. Dissatisfied with Lang's treatment of the material as an art film, Prokosch hires Paul Javal (Michel Piccoli), a novelist and playwright, to rework the script. The conflict between artistic expression and commercial opportunity parallels Paul's sudden estrangement from his wife Camille Javal (Brigitte Bardot), who becomes aloof with Paul after being left alone with Prokosch, a millionaire playboy.

Fidélio, l’Odyssée d’Alice ‘Fidelio, Alice’s Journey’ - Lucie Borleteau - 2014 - 1h37
Thirty-year-old Alice is a sailor. She leaves Félix, her man, on terra firma, and embarks as a mechanic on an old cargo ship, Fidelio. Once on board, she discovers that she is replacing a man who has just died and that Gaël, the first great love of her life, is the ship's captain. In her cabin, Alice finds a notebook that belonged to her predecessor. What she reads therein - mechanical problems, sexual conquests and melancholy love - curiously reflects her own journey. The only woman amongst a male crew, lulled by her love affairs that start to reel and the camaraderie in ports of call, Alice exposes herself to the joy of living everything at once and trying to stay on course.

12 February 2016 - Charles Aznavour in concert at Dubai World Trade Centre
Alliance Française Dubai is the proud partner of Dubai Classics 2016 Charles Aznavour concert.
With “She , La Boheme, les deux guitares, For me Formidable, Emmenez moi, Une Vie d'Amour (Russian song)….” Mr. Charles Aznavour, France's most famous crooner, artist of the century (elected by CNN worldwide) will take the stage for the first time in the UAE. He will be performing Live on stage for an unforgettable night. Charles Aznavour, born 22 May, 1924, is a French Armenian singer, songwriter and actor. Aznavour is known for his unique tenor voice. The multi award singer has written more than 1,200 songs, sung in 8 languages, sold more than 180 million records.

3 February - Eric Peyret - Painting Exhibition
For the last twenty years, Eric Peyret has been working on city representations and urban scenes.
This work is an attempt to catch the spirit, the organization of the urban space, the culture and the human willing which made this happen.
This work tries to combine figurative topics with abstract effects, dynamic pop culture signs and geometrical graphic elements in order to create singular representation in which one can enter and travel with many possibilities of different ways and sights.
The photographic perspectives are not used in order to get a less aggressive feeling and a more serene and esthetical balance, the human presence is suggestive most of the time and the humanity is expressed through the choice of colours, impressions and moods as in a still life classical painting.
What interest Eric Peyret in painting Dubai is the exceptional architectural richness of the city, its unbelievable evolution, the political and historical vision which led to the present, and the perspectives of development which are for the next future.
The culture mix which makes Dubai so unique also interests Eric very much as he is fond of arabic culture, way of life and arts. He thus has been studying Arabic for two years in order to speak, read and write it and better know Arabic calligraphy.
