– Award Recognizes Marcie Ludwig at Children’s Hospital Colorado as a Professional Making a Difference in Health Care Today –

AURORA, Colo. – November 24, 2015 – American Sentinel University and the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) recently named Marcie Ludwig, RN, BSN, CPEN at Children’s Hospital Colorado as the November Colorado Health Care Stars Award Winner. This award recognizes Ludwig as an exceptional health care professional.

Colorado Health Care Stars is a statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and CHA. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge clinical professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.

Ludwig is a clinical nurse educator (CNE) for the emergency department and inpatient units at Children’s Hospital Colorado’s new South Campus location and the Children’s Hospital’s Parker Campus.

In December 2013 when the new South Campus opened, she played an instrumental role to help 60+ employees get oriented to the new campus, organizing the onboarding phase and later developing and successfully implementing an orientation schedule for the staff to get them ready to care for patients, all in a very short time.

Once the South Campus opened, and throughout the first year of operation, Ludwig continued site education, supported and oriented numerous RNs, and was an active participant in multiple successful regulatory inspections required for a new hospital during their first year of operation.

As a Basic Life Support Instructor, Ludwig organizes check-offs and facilitates code simulations for many areas within and outside of her areas of responsibility. Ludwig works late into the evenings and on weekends to keep the staff updated on competency and educational requirements.

“In addition to Marcie’s educator responsibilities, she has taken on numerous other tasks at South Campus such as acting as the flu champion for this site, and she organized multiple flu shot clinics where over 300 employees received their annual vaccination,” says Amy Lewis, Director, patient care services at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Lewis says that Ludwig is most at home when she is educating and supporting nurses.

“She mentors and challenges nurses to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to all of their patients. Our team of RNs, clinical assistants, and clinical medical technicians love her and feel comfortable going to her with their questions or needs for continuing education that she happily provides,” says Lewis. “Marcie takes great ownership of all of the units she supports, and represents both this organization and professional nursing in a way that makes me most proud to be working alongside her.”
