What steps can we collectively take in order to be more efficient with our waste disposal methods?

  • Written by: a Guest Writer

With time, the need to have a proper waste disposal management has become extremely important for residential and commercial needs alike. The rapidly increasing population and consumer culture has played a very big role in the increasing mounds of waste in every landfill and it seems as if we are unable to change our habits to dispose of less waste. However, given the countless harmful effects on the environment at large, it is time we give considerable thought about the things we buy as well as the things we so easily dispose of as waste.

Individuals and organizations who care about the environment have taken several steps in order to cut down on the waste produced from their end as well as made an effort to recycle and reuse several items for greater longevity. But while these positive examples give us hope for a better future, there is a need for massive acceptance of such measures all across Australia in order for us to actually see some proper results. There have been countless initiatives by well-meaning organizations which promote eco-friendly waste disposal techniques and believe in the 3R’s-reduce, reuse and recycle.

The most widely accepted method of waste disposal management is to undertake waste recycling. Recycling can help to get rid of the waste in an environment-friendly manner as well as saving money spent in buying the same things, which can be reused and recycled in a different manner. It can also help to buy articles with less packaging in order to generate less amounts of waste. Unwanted items at home, which are in a proper state can be donated to a charity or can be refashioned into different items of use at home.

Many organizations have devised new ways to ensure their clients engage in waste recycling activities. They offer separate bins for recycling and also provide segregation and recycling services to clients, with an aim to push more people into adopting these positive methods into their waste disposal strategy. There have been significant results, where clients have become more accepting of such environment-friendly techniques and it has also made them more aware of the waste that they throw away. This helps in significant cut-downs in the waste disposed on a daily basis.

In the commercial business spaces, there has been widespread changes introduced with an effort to become a more environment-friendly organization. It is matter of pride for business companies and many of them have gradually made the difficult but important change with a view to connect more humanely with their audience. Numerous steps such as waste skip bins at the workplace, segregation of the waste thrown away as well as reuse and recycle have been prominent changes introduced. As a result of this, in Australia, we have seen a willingness towards changing the environment for the better on part of the residents and business organizations.

The changes brought about can go a long way in helping to ensure that the amount of waste disposed of in landfills is significantly reduced. This will in turn help us to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute effectively in a positive and safe breathing space for our future generations. The way forward involves bringing into action more innovative ways of doing business, maintaining a household and cutting back on unnecessary waste being generated for our own selfish needs. While it is a long road to recovery, with united action, it is definitely possible for us to be more eco-friendly and bring in positive change in our environment.
