Understanding the Marvels of Modern Dental-Medical Treatments

  • Written by: Daily Bulletin

Are you one of those people who suffer from anxiety prior to a dentist appointment? Or perhaps even if you avoid going to the dentist for as long as you can bear your toothache? It might be understandable why you’re afraid if we lived in the fifties or sixties, but now? These days, a visit to your best dentist in Sydney CBD
is as quick and painless as getting your nails done. Some might even say visiting Bay Central Dental to be quite enjoyable.

If you’ve still got some anxiety problems and fear getting a dental treatment, perhaps you need to understand how some of them work so that you won’t get so fidgety under the LED lights. Here are some of the more common treatments and what essentially happens when you get them:

  1. Dental implants – These are typically done to replace missing teeth and are designed to last a lifetime or as a permanent solution. Implants are medical devices that are surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person’s ability to chew or to complete the appearance of someone’s teeth. Dental implant treatments are so advanced that you don’t have to worry about too much downtime or about experiencing pain throughout the procedure. Talk to your dentist in advance about your pain tolerance and how you should go about this procedure if you do need it.
  2. Root canal treatments - With this procedure, you won’t even have to go under because a dentist sometimes uses a numbing agent through a topical gel or an injection prior to drilling the inside of the tooth. Once the infected pulp is removed and the drilled spot is cleaned, the tooth is as good as new and even stronger now that it has been treated.
  3. Crowns – This is done through the removal of a thin outer layer of someone’s tooth, which is called the tooth enamel, in order to put a “crown” or dental cap over it. Though this is usually done to improve the shape of the tooth following a root canal, this procedure also helps in improving the shape and appearance of a tooth or set of teeth.
  4. Veneers – Considered as a purely cosmetic treatment, veneers are nearly similar to crowns in the sense that the procedure removes a portion of the tooth in order to bond custom-made shells to the front of the tooth. These “shells” can be porcelain or composite resin and are designed to actually perfect an imperfect set of teeth.
  5. Teeth Whitening – Your healthy diet of decaffeinated plant-based coffee or keto diet may be affecting the appearance and colour of your teeth. This is why a dentist’s teeth-whitening treatment is still the better choice to have lighter-coloured teeth. Some use hydrogen peroxide gels while some use laser whitening, stain-removing agents, or hybrid whitening systems.
  6. Invisalign – These are efficient orthodontic tools that modern-day dentists use to straighten teeth. Its namesake is taken from the word invisible; hence, they are clear-coloured aligners that correct the alignment of your teeth. They are also removable and are a better alternative than braces, which is why they’re considered a quick fix than your typical orthodontic braces.

It’s good to know how these dental procedures go so that at your next dentist appointment, you’ll know what’s going on inside your mouth and how your teeth will be treated by your favourite dentist.
