6 Things to Watch Out for When Choosing a Car Hire Company

  • Written by: News Company

Car hire services are not all created equally. Some are more reputable than others, and some that just should never be trusted. How can you know and how do you choose the best? Here are some pointers to get you started.

  1. Always make sure that the car hire company is registered with the proper agencies and authorities. This, in and of itself, will show you that they are serious about their professionalism and their business reputation. It will also reduce the risk of other concerns.

  2. Ask how they maintain their fleet of cars and what types of vehicles they have available. The best companies will always offer the newest vehicles in their best condition. If the cars look outdated or not well-cared for, it might be a sign of bad business.

  3. Watch for hidden fees and charges that aren’t included upfront with your pricing estimates or specials that are offered. Sometimes, companies will try to sneak in extra fees or hidden fuel surcharges and leave it to the fine print or gloss over it so that you don’t notice.

  4. Do they have other locations? If you enjoy the service, it may be a good idea to see what locations are available for when you have future needs for car hire. This isn’t a necessity or dealbreaker, but it’s a perk to look out for.

  5. How do they charge for the return date? Some companies may charge a full additional day if you’re even just a few minutes late returning the vehicle. Don't be hit with surprise charges by knowing the exact requirements for a return.

  6. Watch out for companies that overbook rentals and may not have vehicles available when you need them. This is rarer, but it does happen, and many people are left holding the short end of the stick.

Renting a car can be a great way to enjoy your vacation or a handy solution in the event of an emergency or breakdown in your own car. With these tips, you’ll be sure to get the best car rental, no matter what you choose.
