Tips to Choose the Right Christmas Tree

Choosing the appropriate Christmas tree is the most exciting part of decoration. Christmas trees are available in either real trees or artificial ones. Real trees provide an authentic Christmas experience with their natural scent and texture. However, real trees need to be watered daily to keep them fresh throughout the day.

Artificial trees, on the other hand, are also available these days. It does not require regular maintenance and can be used at any time. They are available in many styles including pre-lit trees, frosted trees, and different color trees.

Though most artificial trees do not have the natural scent of a freshly cut fir or pine, some are designed with a small cylinder at the base that emanates or is sprayed with fragrance to give the impression of a live tree.

1. Consider the Space Available

Before choosing a Christmas tree, evaluate the location where this tree will be placed. The room size and available floor space will determine the size and shape of your christmas trees. Take into consideration the height of your ceiling to choose the right height.

Also, consider how wide the tree is, if you have very limited space. Whether the tree is going to be placed in a corner or by a window, make sure it should not interfere with furniture or fittings, walkways, and or doorways.

2. Choose the Right Tree Shape

Christmas trees are available in various shapes, and choosing the right one enhances the overall appearance of your home’s holiday décor. The tree, in full shape and wide base, adds grandeur which is good to flaunt in large rooms.

It allows you to hang more decorations, and place presents around the base. If you have limited space, a slim or pencil tree will meet your space and style needs.

3. Look for Freshness

Freshness is essential when selecting a real tree, so it stays looking its best throughout the season. The needles of fresh trees are dark green, and when crushed they should be flexible and moist.

When you check the tree, pay special attention to flexible branches that tend to bend without snapping. The color of the tree should be a bright and fresh pine.

You can gently tap the base of a tree on firm ground to check for freshness.  Make sure that the christmas trees are watered daily to maintain their freshness throughout the season.

4. Take the Branch Strength of the Tree into Account

A branch is an important component to consider when choosing a Christmas tree for decoration particularly if you plan for hanging heavy ornaments. Each tree has a different branch vulnerability. For example — Frasers and Scotch pines have strong enough branches to support heavier ornaments without drooping.

Alternatively, trees including white pines have branches that are supple enough to bend under the weight of heavier ornaments. Spacing between the branches is also important for side branch stability. Trees that have sufficiently wide gaps between their limbs offer more space for decorative ornaments and lights.

5. Artificial Tree

While choosing an artificial tree, determine whether you want a pre-lit tree or a non-lit one. Pre-lit artificial trees consist of attached lights. They are available in different lighting options including white lights, colored lights, or multi-function lights to change according to different settings.

Non-lit trees enable you to add your own lights and customize the tree to your preference. You can choose the type of lights, the number of lights, and the pattern arrangements that suit your requirements and preferences. Also, make sure that the lights you use on the tree are certified for safety for indoor use.
