Australia has become one of the world leading platforms for models to gain exposure to the world of fashion, design, music, TV and film representatives and decision-makers across the globe thanks to a mother and daughter duo and their fast-growing concept ‘Runway Supermodel Australia’.

According to Lovely Bandal, the backstage of any glamourous catwalk is anything but posh, as any model will tell you. The chaotic hustle and bustle belies the elegance of statuesque models strutting down the runway. This October, aspiring Australian models will be amongst these stylish models, as they compete in Runway Supermodel Australia 2022 to take out this year’s crown. The event will be streamed for national and global audiences.

Lovely Bandal and her daughter Crystel are the faces behind Runway Supermodel, a company established to give Australian models the chance to present themselves before hundreds of fashion and talent managers, personal managers, casting directors, network representatives and music producers. As the CEO and founder of Runway Supermodel, and its production company Regal Star Productions, Lovely Bandal explained that it has taken them only three years since the start of the company to get to this point.

We started with doing local events, but now, we are sending models internationally to present themselves to larger audiences as far away as Los Angeles and New York,” Lovely Bandal said.

Runway Supermodel has come an incredibly long way in such a short time. We are partnered with the IMTA (International Modelling and Talent Association), which has been producing week-long conventions for more than 35 years.

In addition to this, our show is also supported by SHEIN, a leading global e-tailer with a mission to make trendy fashion, beauty and lifestyle products accessible to everyone while supporting the communities in which they do business.

We are incredibly proud to be supported by such a large, community-centric, sustainable and globally focused brand.”

Runway Academy

Crystel and I created Runway Supermodel Australia based on Crystel’s experiences when she was first starting out in the industry,” Lovely Bandal said.

We experienced, first-hand, the lack of information and credible support available to aspiring talents to protect them from being exploited. So we started by establishing Runway Academy to provide training and education to beginners and aspiring models.

We help them to create a platform that connects them to trusted individual professionals and organisations in the fashion and entertainment industry. Our mission is to build a safe space and community for the models and talents while achieving their dreams, and to vitally support, empower and globalise Australian creatives.

When young models come to us at Runway Academy, we ensure that we take care of each one of them spiritually, physically and mentally. We believe that authenticity and transparency attracts them to join in our program and this helps us to spread awareness.

Aspiring models must not only feel safe, they must be safe and we aim to empower them to achieve this outcome.”

Strengthening Australia’s position as a creative industry leader

Australia still has a long way to go before it becomes a creative leader in the fashion world, a position that tends to be associated with the European fashion houses,” Lovely Bandal added.

We are trying to change that. Through our collaborations and partnerships, we hope to focus on individual creatives, organisations and brands. We aim strengthen the Australian creative industry globally and put us on the map!

Crystel and I have been doing events for more than ten years now. We believe that our experiences in organising and creating events from private to big functions gives us an advantage in this business. The modelling industry is notoriously cutthroat. Shows like Runway Supermodel Australia is what’s needed to give Australian models the opportunity to shine.

Modelling should not be exclusive to the rich or those well connected, it should be accessible to all and this is what we are aiming to achieve as well. We want to create an inclusive sector that educates, supports and showcases our extraordinary depth of talent here in Australia. We want to create a springboard that spearheads our talent into opportunities here in Australia and overseas.”
