It’s not necessary to volunteer to the ends of the earth to help save the planet. We love distant countries, support Agritourism respect the work of volunteers, but don’t forget how much we can do to protect the environment without leaving our own home, city and country.

Of course, around the world, people are cutting down forests for cottage villages and shooting animals listed in the Red Book from helicopters. However, it’s ridiculous to talk seriously about sorting garbage, saving energy, or the fact that old equipment can’t be dumped because the alloys used in its production and metals will decompose for millions of years.

There are many benefits of caring for the environment, and it’s great for you in many ways too. For example, asbestos is an extremely harmful material that is commonly used for various purposes. Asbestos testing Sydney is a great way to ensure that you’re safe.

And yet we will have to start with ourselves – there is no other way to save the planet. Here are some practical tips to help us make the lives of our children and grandchildren a little better. And there, you look, and people around will take your habits. We are still far away, but the first step has already been taken.

Take a shower

Having changed the habit of basking in the bathroom and getting up under the shower, you will drastically reduce your water intake (up to 100 liters per day). If you turn off the water while soaping your head, save another 50. Use a dishwasher. According to the expert company Intertek, where the machine needs 6.5 liters of water when you wash the dishes by hand, you use all 49.

Pause

Leaving the water on while brushing your teeth, you waste almost 500 liters of water per month. This also applies to those who like to shave with "water accompaniment".

Keep plumbing in order

The current tap can cost 20 liters of water per day, and poor tank insulation - up to 400 liters!

Don’t ignore hotel flyers

How many times have you seen a sign in the bathroom of your room, urging you to think twice about the need to replace the towel to save water? Follow the call! Since 2010, the Hilton Hotels have managed to save so much water that would be enough for 1000 Olympic pools.

Energy resources

A TV, a DVD player and a computer spend energy even in sleep mode. Pedantic Germans have calculated that in Germany alone, the energy consumed per week corresponds to the generation of two power plants in the same week. Therefore, either be careful and don’t forget to press the Off button or connect the devices to outlets with timers that themselves regulate the supply of electricity.

Unplug the charger

Most charges for phones, tablets, cameras and electronic toys consume energy even when the device is not connected to them - an average of 5 watts per hour, i.e. 40 kW per year.

Use natural light

This is the easiest way to save energy. Often we deprive ourselves of sunlight by curtaining the windows with curtains that are too thick, blocking the furniture, or painting the walls in a color that absorbs light.

Add fixtures

Chandeliers, floor lamps, table lamps, sconces. – it’s proved that the more light sources in the house, the more likely that you will turn on only those lamps that you need at this moment.

Dress warm at home

If you're cold, put on a sweater, and then think about whether to turn on the heater. An increase in room temperature by only one ºС increases energy consumption by up to 10%.

Don’t save on household appliances

An old refrigerator needs twice as much electricity as a modern energy-efficient one. When buying household appliances, pay attention to the marking: the inscription "A ++" indicates that the device consumes a minimum of electricity. Defrost the refrigerator regularly: the more ice, the more energy it needs.

Get a big wash

An energy-efficient washing machine saves both electricity and water. Don’t run it for one pair of jeans (or at least wash them in express wash mode or with less water). And remember that the most environmentally friendly way to dry clothes is on a rope.

Learn Internet Banking

Paying bills online, you will not only save time but also save the tree. And if instead of paper receipts, extracts, printouts you start using electronic ones, the number of trees saved will be in the thousands.

Don’t print letters

According to experts, in Europe, approximately 700 billion unnecessary pages are printed every year. Try to print only those documents that are needed. And if possible, use both sides of the sheet.

Save on packaging

Everyone loves to receive beautifully packaged gifts. But in most cases, you can’t violently tear the paper, but gently unfold the gift and reuse the packaging.

Plant a tree

The next New Year, buy a small Christmas tree in a pot (from 149 rubles), dress up, water for several months, and plant it in the garden in spring.

Leave the world green

There is an alternative to wooden coffins: rattan coffins. And you can even arrange a funeral using only a shroud. Coffins from wood stoves containing formaldehyde emit toxic gases when burned, and when in the ground they harm the ecological system - the same formaldehyde and glue enter the groundwater. Certified coffins already exist for green burning, and in some countries, a green burial is being carried out in a forest or meadow.

Drink Arabian Coffee

According to studies, about 150 bird species live on plantations growing in the shade of an Arabian coffee tree. If coffee trees are grown in bright sunshine, the number of its inhabitants is reduced to 20-50 species. Due to the demand for cheap coffee, many manufacturers have switched to growing “sunny” varieties, for which they use more pesticides and fertilizers. You can protect birds and also reduce the use of chemicals.

Be a vegetarian once a week

To get 500 g of meat, you need about 10,000 liters of water: 20 times more than for the production of potatoes of the same weight. Also, animals, such as cows, produce a huge amount of methane, No. 2 gas in the list of those responsible for the greenhouse effect.

Buy fish with the certification mark

Certificates give benefits to fishers who operate legally. The certification program itself aims to recognize environmentally sound fishing. Learn more about simple ways to help the environment.

Conclusion

Now that you know these tips for improving the sustainable environment, make sure you practice them in your daily life. To reduce the carbon footprint of all trucks, ships, and planes that delivered the goods to your store, buy more local products and help farmers at the same time.
