Just as there were winners and losers in Malcolm Turnbull’s ministerial reshuffle at the beginning of the week, there will be frontbench promotions and demotions in the Labor Party in the coming days.

Michelle Grattan tells University of Canberra acting vice chancellor Frances Shannon that the left of the Labor Party would like to make room on the frontbench for other people, including NSW MP Linda Burney.

“There are also some resentments about Kim Carr in the left. He voted for Bill Shorten in 2013, in the leadership ballot, took a couple of his sub-factional mates across with him and that was pretty important in Bill Shorten’s victory,” Grattan says.
