October 29, 2015 - (Phoenix, Ariz.) - The Maricopa Trail and Park Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural Prickly Pedal mountain bike race. Conceived as a vehicle to showcase the scenic Maricopa Trail, the event offers multiple distances including a premier 50-mile race.

“The Pricky Pedal and other future events are a wonderful opportunity for local communities to showcase themselves and their trail systems to competitive mountain bike racers from all over the country,” offers Maricopa Park and Trail Foundation founding board member Jan Hancock, “The rapidly increasing number of cycling enthusiasts foretell positive economic impacts for years to come, which in turn underscores that need to protect and preserve the incredible open space opportunities presented by our park and trail system here in Maricopa County.”

Organizers expect an estimated 300 riders from around the valley and the surrounding region to attend the event in its first year. With spectacular views, perfect riding conditions, and courses for all abilities, Prickly Pedal organizers anticipate expanding 2016’s single day competition into a multi-day stage race in the years to come, promising to attract thousands of participants as the event matures.

For more information regarding participation, volunteering or sponsorship opportunities, please visit the race website at www.pricklypedal.com or contact event chairperson Aaron Stiner at aastiner@gmail.com.
