CAPE COD, MA (August 3, 2015) – Award-winning New York-based actress, MARGARET REED shines in the title role ‘Masha’ in Christopher Durang’s Tony Award-winning Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Directed by Shear Madness creator, Bruce Jordan, the performances at The Cape Playhouse from August 11-22, 2015, mark the third theater for this production, which also includes the Cleveland Play House and Geva Theatre Center in Rochester.

Set in Bucks County, PA, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike delivers a hilarious romp through the laughs and loves of family dysfunction. Reed brings to life ‘Masha Hardwicke’, a former blockbuster B-movie actress who visits her brother and adopted sister, Vanya and Sonia. With her much younger, beloved boy-toy Spike in tow, Masha informs her siblings of news that will change their lives.

Reed is thrilled for the opportunity to bring ‘Masha’ to three different cities, adding, "I thank Sigourney Weaver for being the inspiration to her dear friend, Christopher Durang for the global-celebrity-that-is-Masha. What a hoot it is for me to play this flawed and vulnerable, yet boldly star-powered woman!" The HuffPost exclaims "Masha, played with a winning narcissism by Margaret Reed, times every moment to perfection!"

Reed is best known for her role as the kooky romantic ‘Shannon O'Hara McKechnie’ on the beloved soap opera, “As the World Turns,” for which she received a nomination for the Soap Opera Awards' Best Comedic Performance. Television fans will also recognize her as the furious ex-date ‘Mary Contardi’ in “The Baby Shower” episode on Seinfeld and as the recurring tough lawyer ‘Felicia Chatham’ on Law and Order: SVU. Theater goers will remember Reed for her DramaLogue Award-winning performance as ‘Kate Sullivan’ in Other People's Money at The Pasadena and Westwood Playhouses, as well as the NJ Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor for her turn as ‘Beth’ in Donald Margulies' Dinner With Friends.

A Salinas, California native, Reed’s passion for performing began at an early age, appearing in John Steinbeck’s play Burning Bright in his boyhood house. She earned an M.F.A. from Cornell University and a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz, before traveling the U.S. in John Houseman's heralded troupe The Acting Company. From there, the late great director Alan Schneider cast her as ‘His Assistant’ in the world premiere of Samuel Beckett's Catastrophe at Off-Broadway's Harold Clurman Theatre. Other notable Off-Broadway credits for Reed include playing Vivien Leigh and Joan Plowright in Austin Pendleton's wildly successful play Orson's Shadow at The Barrow Street Theatre. Reed also set her sights on TV roles, adding numerous guest-starring appearances to her resume, including Law and Order (SVU, CI, and Classic), Seinfeld, HBO's Mildred Pierce, Star Trek TNG, Spin City, The Golden Girls and Empty Nest.

Today, Reed continues to create memorable roles on stage and screen. Most recently, Reed shot five independent films and up next she will star as 'Gloria' in Esther and Isaac Chehebar's The Amazing Ray as the wife of Josh Mostel's 'Ray'.

Margaret Reed is represented by Meg Pantera at The Agency (New York).
