April 25, 2016 (Jay, VT)- Jay Peak Resort today announced that it will reopen for skiing and riding April 30 and May 1. The resort was spinning its lifts for seven-day-a-week operations until yesterday. It will be closed this week and re-open this Saturday and Sunday for the final weekend of the season, which will include music and a barbeque. The Jet Triple will be the last chair to spin and lift tickets will be just $20 for all ages.

"This season was bizarre, to say the least," said Steve Wright, Jay Peak's General Manager. "But we're going to get every turn we can out of the 200 or so inches of snow that did fall."

Wright's being a bit understated in his nod to the bizarre. Ski resort operators throughout New England virtually all agree that it was one of the most difficult winters in more than 30 years. The snow that did fall was often followed by rain and warm temperatures, which prevented resorts from using their snowmaking systems. His comment also belies the fact that Leisure Hotels and Resorts, a resort-management company out of Kansas City, was recently brought in to run day-to-day operations while Jay Peak's owners work with the Securities and Exchange Commission to resolve civil proceedings surrounding the use of EB-5 investment funds.

As part of the May As Well celebration, as the final weekend is being billed, the resort also announced that it is extending the spring price deadline for season pass purchases to both Jay Peak and Q Burke Resort. The best price for season passes had been set to expire May 9. It is now July 11.

"All of us, resort staff and Jay customers alike, had a lot of information to take in last week," continued Wright. "We wanted to extend the (season pass) deadline to give our customers the time to step back, process all of the news, and see that we are making good on the promise that it is business as usual up here. Jay Peak is still Jay Peak."
