Powell Gardens' signature fundraising event, Under a Blue Moon: Garden Party & Rare Plant Auction, will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Powell Gardens. The extraordinary event features both a hard-to-find plant silent auction as well as a cocktail and dinner with a themed menu, "Celebrating the Desert Rose."
Beginning with a signature cocktail and hors d'oeuvres at the Visitor Education Center, a delectable dinner and brief live auction follows on the peninsula with stunning views of the sunset over the lake and gardens. Guests will enjoy a desert rose themed menu by Lon Lane's Inspired Occasions, featuring Beef Tenderloin and Salsa Verde, Charmoula Grilled Chicken, Grilled Cactus with Sweet Peppers and Grilled Asparagus. Dessert will complete the menu featuring Chile Chocolate Cake with Prickly Pear Sauce and Caramel Corn Ice Cream. Wine is included. A vegetarian option is available upon request.

Proceeds from this one-of-a-kind event will benefit children's educational programs at Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden. Through these programs, school children learn more about healthy eating by planting, growing, harvesting and preparing fresh food in the youth education garden.
