Champlain to Host Open House for Adult Learners on March 21

College’s Career-Focused Degree Programs Designed to Help Working Professionals

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Champlain College, recently named the “#1 Most Innovative School in the North” by US News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges,” will hold an open house on Monday, March 21 to highlight its career-focused professional degree programs for adults.

The open house at the Champlain College Miller Center at Lakeside, 175 Lakeside Ave., will offer information on more than 50 online programs in the areas of business, education, cybersecurity, healthcare, human studies, law and technology, plus two campus-based Emergent Media master’s programs, to encourage local residents to take advantage of the offerings. It is free and open to the public.

“We're bringing together a team of Champlain representatives who will be on hand to answer your questions, discuss your options and guide you through the application process. We’ll provide light refreshments and if you need to pick your kids up from school or daycare before coming here, we’ll have snacks and a craft activity center for them while you get your questions answered,” said Melissa Marcello, managing director of the  Division of Continuing Professional Studies

The adult-centered approach to learning helps working professionals balance work, study and life, she added.  Through relevant, career-focused programs, students gain the essential knowledge and skills to succeed in today’s dynamic workplace. This approach, combined with Champlain’s strategic alliances with organizations across the country - most notably the Federal government - has attracted working professionals from around the nation and resulted in nearly doubling the College’s enrollment of adult learners to more than 2,500 students in just one year.

The March 21 open house will offer attendees the opportunity to:

  • Meet with program directors and advisors to talk in-depth about  programs.

  • Discover what online learning looks like through a hands-on demonstration.

  • Speak with financial aid and military  and veterans services counselors to explore options for paying for school.

  • Visit with career services  and academic tutoring teams to learn about services and support.

  • Get undergraduate transfer credit questions answered in-person. Attendee should bring copies of past education transcripts.

  • Complete an online application with a team on-hand to answer questions – there is no fee to apply.

  • Children are welcome and there will be snacks and craft activities available while their parents explore the educational offerings.

According to Champlain Provost Laurie Quinn, “Our exponential growth can be attributed to our ability to respond quickly and effectively to both employer and working professionals’ needs. Our partnerships with local and national employers allow us to develop programs that align with the most in-demand skills for today’s workforce, and our unyielding focus on quality means that students are guaranteed a dynamic and engaging experience in the classroom with skills that can be immediately applied in their workplace.”
