LAS VEGAS – USA Sevens Rugby announces HSBC as the first-ever title sponsor of the USA Sevens Adopt-A-Country Program in partnership with the Clark County School District (CCSD). The program, which pairs 16 CCSD elementary and middle schools with a team participating in the 2016 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament, March 4 – 6, at Sam Boyd Stadium, has garnered attention with HSBC for its international education and ambassadorship while incorporating hands-on lessons and values designed around the school’s “adopted” country.

“HSBC has already shown an investment in the growth of rugby through their current sponsorship of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, and we’re thrilled they wanted to get more involved in the Las Vegas community,” said Rob Cornelius, United World Sports vice president of business development and Adopt-A-Country coordinator. “HSBC understands the power of rugby and the values it teaches to our young students, making the Adopt-A-Country Program the perfect platform to get involved.”

In addition to the sponsorship of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, HSBC continues to foster the historic legacy of rugby through partnerships that invest in growth of the sport globally through the development of youth and grassroots programs. Over the last year, more than 32,000 children from around the world have participated in HSBC’s grassroots events, and that number continues to grow each day.

This year, HSBC will host the remaining youth rugby Tournament of Nations Championship event and rugby clinic, set to take place on at Charlie Frias Park on Saturday, Feb. 20, where teachers and students from participating CCSD schools join experienced instructors on the rugby field to learn how to play the sport and compete in a youth tournament. The HSBC Adopt-A-Country Program sponsorship will continue through the 2016 – 2017 school year.

About HSBC USA Sevens Adopt-A-Country Program:

The HSBC sponsored USA Sevens Adopt-A-County and Clark County School District (CCSD) partnership brings the world to Las Vegas students through international education and hands-on ambassadorship inspired by rugby and its culture. Each participating Clark County school "adopts" the country of a team competing in the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament. Students explore and research international cultures, traditions, history, customs, languages, fine arts and geography in the classroom while learning touch rugby in physical education classes and on the playground. The curriculum culminates when the “adopted" team visits the school for a welcome assembly and pep rally. On the Saturday of the tournament, students take a field trip to Sam Boyd Stadium to cheer on the USA Eagles and their “adopted" team at the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament. Since the program began in 2010, over 35,000 CCSD students have participated in the program with 8,000-10,000 participating in the 2015 – 2016 school year.
