Five HOKA ONE ONE Hopefuls Headed To U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials

  • Written by: Pitch Engine

With top seeds and seasoned vets, HOKA’s deep team looks to win Olympic berths

GOLETA, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2016) — HOKA ONE ONE® (a division of Deckers Brands NYSE: DECK) will send five athletes to race the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 13. The roster includes HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite team members Matt Llano, Ben Bruce, Scott Smith, and Kellyn Taylor, and HOKA athlete Tyler Andrews.

Taylor qualified with a top-10 women’s marathon time (2:28:40), and Llano has the eleventh fastest men’s marathon qualifying time headed into the race (2:12:28). For Taylor, a mother who’s training to be a firefighter, the race will be just her second marathon. But she’s been a fierce contender on the track in the 10,000- and 5,000-meters.

“We are excited to cheer on our athletes as they compete in this competitive and historic race, which returns to the home of the inaugural women’s U.S. Olympic Marathon in 1984,” said HOKA ONE ONE President Wendy Yang. “The strength and depth of our elite team who will be racing this weekend is a testament to our commitment as a brand and staying true to our roots even as we expand in the running market.”

At the Trials, the top three finishers will earn a spot on Team USA for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. To qualify for this race, these athletes had to hit standard times in either the marathon (2:15:00 or 2:19:00 for men; 2:37 or 2:45 for women) or half (1:05 for men; 1:15:00 for women).

The spectator-friendly course features three loops and all fans, friends and family are invited to join HOKA ONE ONE to cheer on the racers on Saturday, February 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Figueroa Street between 21st St. and 22nd St.

The team will race in an exclusive, athlete-only colorway of the HOKA ONE ONE Tracer, a highlight of the speed line featuring Pro2Lite midsole technology and available to the public April 1.
