(Butler, PA) The BC3 Alumni Association held its second annual Bowling for Scholars event on Friday, November 13 at Family Bowlaway in Butler. The event raised over $14,500 and drew 200 participants, a 100 percent increase over those who participated in the inaugural year. Proceeds from the event benefit the BC3 Alumni Legacy Scholarship. This year, the BC3 Education Foundation, Inc. awarded over $280,000 in student scholarships, said Erin Cioffi, BC3 Education Foundation Campaign Stewardship Manager.

Title sponsors for the 2015 Bowling for Scholars were three BC3 alumni-owned businesses in Butler: Best Insurance, Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, and Butler Pet Cremation. Future POS served as shirt sponsor for the event.

BC3 Alumni Association Board members Don Best and Diane Marburger said the Bowling for Scholars event is growing in popularity because it is family-friendly and an activity that appeals to all ages.

“With bowling, it can be done regardless of the weather outside and can be done in a few hours,” said Marburger. “It’s really a family affair. It engages everyone in the family and I think that’s a big part of its popularity.”

Best said he issued a personal invitation to all of his company’s employees to attend the event, and noted that those who participated enjoyed the evening. “This kind of event is ideal for fundraising because there isn’t a lot of overhead involved with it, which allows us to put more back into funding student scholarships.”

Cioffi said she is looking forward to continuing to grow the Bowling for Scholars event in the future. “We hope all the people who came this year come back, and bring more people with them,” she said.
