The Pros of Having a Pest Free House

  • Written by: Muzi Tsolakis

No matter which country you may stay in you can’t escape the bugs and insects that might try to enter and live within the comfort of your home. That is why it is so necessary to get rid of any pests that might have invaded your property.

Given below are a few pros of keeping your house pest free:

1. Prevents Illness

Pests always arrive from and travel through the dirtiest areas, gutters, garbage trucks, dumping areas and industrial wastes. The dirt, diseases and hazardous chemicals that they come in contact with is unfathomable.

When these pests invade our home they not only put our life at risk but also our loved ones. Ticks, worms, lice, and parasites are all common pests in Australia and in every other part of the world they can transport themselves through rats, mice and even birds.

Taking safety measures to ensure that your property is pest-free will keep everyone in your house including yourself in good health.

2. Helps Avoid House Fires

There have been many situations where the cause of homes being destroyed is due to rodents chewing on electrical wires that trigger a fire or rodents chewing on gas pipes causing gas leakage.

To keep yourself safe from these kinds of incidents, it is important to be observant and not take things lightly. When there are rodents present you will see small signs like food that was kept out is missing, few things have been chewed on or have bite marks.

If you happen to notice these signs get your house inspected soon before the number of rodents increase. It is better to be safe than sorry and will cost you less than the damage of a house fire.

3. Advanced Pest Control Can Save You from Expensive Termite Damage

Having a termite infestation is the worst because they destroy your furniture and property.

If you have wooden furniture or your house mainly consists of wood it would be wise to look out for termites and take the precautions that are needed because dealing with a termite infestation can cost you between $2000-$3000 and having to repair your house can go up to $5000 which will totally come up to $8000.

You will be spending way more money on fixing the damage than on preventing the damage in the first place.

4. Protecting Your Wardrobe

Spiders, moths and other bugs are naturally drawn towards your wardrobe. They like being in warm, closed areas away from direct sunlight and they don’t mind feeding off some clothes.

This is also why you may find some small holes in your clothes simply by storing it even if you have never worn it and it is brand new. Some moths are attracted to natural fabric clothes which also turn out be the expensive ones.

They not only feed on the fabric but also lay their eggs in the clothing which can be very problematic. In order to keep your clothes safe from these insects, it is better to take safety measures to prevent them.

5. Protecting Your Pets from Pests

It is important to care for our pets and make sure that there is no harm done to them. Our furry friends can’t speak for themselves, and each pet has a different way of dealing with pests.

They might run away from it or try to eat it, eating it can be risky and dangerous because insects, bugs and other pests can cause a lot of harm to your pets. The diseases that these pests carry can make our pets sick or cause them discomfort. Hence it is important to keep their environment safe and to keep them healthy.

6. Protect the value of your property investment

Property is usually the single largest investment you will make. Keeping on top of pest management is one way of ensuring you will not have re-negotiate on sale price as a result of an unfavourable building and pest inspection report

Prevention Methods:

To keep your house safe from pests and to save on the expensive damage repairs you can use these low-cost useful tips to keep you, your family and your pets safe.

Given below are a few tips that can help you keep your house safe from pests-

  • Cover your door and windows with netting to keep the insects and other rodents from entering your house.

  • Keep wood away from your property in order to keep termites away from your house.

  • Never leave uncovered food out or store food wrappers and other food items in your pockets or around the house to prevent ants, rats and other insects.

  • Maintain your garden and backyard, keep it clean and keep it trimmed in order to prevent insects and bugs from hiding in there.

  • Install a blinds system outside to prevent any bugs and other insects from entering your house all year long.

  • Never leave your pet food open for long as that too might drag in unwanted insects.

Using these tips will help you keep your house pest free and it doesn’t even cost much. Now that you understand the need for pest control, you will be more proactive in keeping your house pest free.

It is also important to implement these tips and act on it soon rather than waiting for the last moment and land up spending way too much. Keeping your house safe from pest’s means that you are fulfilling your no.1 duty of protecting your loved ones and yourself.
