FREE LIVE GIGS ANNOUNCED FOR SYDNEY RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP

SYDNEY RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP 2016 FUNDRAISING LIVE MUSIC NIGHTS!

Fridays @ Vic on the Park | Friday 29 July @ Newtown Social Club

Heads up fun lovers! After raising around $5,000 in 2015 for Australian charity Reclink, the Sydney Community Cup crew are back for another season of bangin’ free gigs.

In the lead up to the Sydney Community Cup game, Vic on The Park Hotel and Young Henry’s are offering a cut from every Young Henry’s drink purchased at the gigs - 15 & 22 July and 5 & 12 August - to Reclink.

I asked a participant what his favourite bit of the programme is. He said 'people call me by my name.’ " - Reclink founder, Peter Dutton.

The first announcement of bands set to play at the Vic are Dyan Tai, The Escapes, Rackett, Bow Campbell & Davis Claymore (Front End Loader), Leah Flanagan. Then on July 29, the music moves to Newtown Social Club where the Hard-Ons headline with War Hawk plus more special guests set to be announced. Tickets on sale now at newtownsocialclub.com/gigs.

For the final gig on August 12, players from the Walers and the Sailors AFL teams will battle it out “open mic” style before the game day on the sacred turf of Marrickville’s Henson Park. Expect some of the best and worst covers and originals since Lost In Translation.

Reclink is an Australian charity that brings sports and arts programmes to some of Australia’s most vulnerable and often over-looked people – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, addiction, social and economic hardship.

The Community Cup is an entertaining annual grudge match which pits musos against media in an Aussie Rules battle to the death (or at least to the keg) - with funds raised on the day going to Reclink. The musos team are called the Western Walers made up of musicians, managers, and DJs, while the media team known as the Sydney Sailors hail from community radio, street and music press… plus some professional sportsfolk but hey, who’s judging.
