Signs You Might Have Rosacea

  • Written by News Co Media

Common skin issues like acne, pimples, and facial blemishes affect people all the time. There are remedies and ways you can improve on them if you are concerned, but there is a chance you have wrongly self-diagnosed yourself. Rosacea is easy to mistake for such conditions because of similar symptoms. It is a condition that causes inflammations on the skin, usually the facial area like the nose, cheeks, and forehead. It is often mistaken for acne and allergic reaction, but it's a relatively common long-term condition that mainly affects light-skinned women and men.

Redness, Flushing And Pimples

The most noticeable sign of rosacea is redness on the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. The color is among the early signs that you will notice; the redness will come and go during the starting period. As it gets chronic, the redness will become deeper, and it will stay for longer. If it's not treated, you will start noticing bumps and pimples on the face which resemble acne. The spots may contain pus sometimes, making your face feel tender. The flushing happens due to increased blood flow on the skin's affected areas; the skin will darken and feel uncomfortably hot. These symptoms will flare up for months or weeks then go away. If not treated, they might become permanent.

Hyper-Sensitivity

Your face will become very sensitive and tender because the affected skin will swell up and thicken. Your face starts to feel hot all the time and becomes hypersensitive to your touch. Once you notice this sign, you should try and get treatment. Your facial skin may become sensitized to makeup, soap, or heat; you will feel a burning or stinging sensation when you apply it to the face. The skin sensitivity will occur because of the skin thickening from the excess tissue and increased blood flow on the affected areas, especially around the nose. The pimples and bumps may also factor in making your skin tender.

Increased Blood Vessel Visibility

This symptom is also called spider veins; it mostly affects the bridge of the nose and the cheeks. The blood vessels become visible because they are enlarged under the skin and appear in a web-like form. The blood vessels will begin to show after a while or after some flare-ups. When there is increased blood flow on your facial skin, the vessels will enlarge to accommodate the flow.

Burning Sensation Of The Eyes

The burning sensation in your eyes will be another sign that you will experience. This will be accompanied by itching and discharge; your eye will become watery, mostly due to irritated or broken blood vessels in the eyelids. You may also be more sensitive to light because of the stinging feeling. Half of the people who suffer from rosacea will experience bloodshot eyes and a burning sensation. Some people will experience itchy and dry eyes, which causes the same effect, your vision may also be blurred, but that is not common in most people.

Conjunctivitis Or Facial Swelling

The main result of the inflammation is facial swelling, especially in the nose and eyes. The skin around these places will enlarge and swell, and the texture of the facial skin will be bumpy because of the swelling. Aside from conjunctivitis, your face will be dehydrated and will appear rough all the time. Conjunctivitis or facial swelling can come with the other symptoms or independently, so you might experience the swelling without the pimples and flushing.

Conclusion

Rosacea is a chronic condition that requires careful treatment. It has profound effects, especially on your social life; you may experience low self-esteem and confidence issues. It's easy to confuse the symptoms with other skin conditions like acne; the best way to catch it early is to know the signs and act on them early on. When you experience any of these signs, seek medical help.
