The word change might not cut it here. Instead, it might make more sense to say a freeze on socializing altogether. To stop the spread of the virus, drastic measures were put in place to prevent people from interacting with each other. The only contact allowed is with immediate family at home.The basis of humanity revolves around people needing one another to get by. Whether it's a gentle hug or a friendly smile, the impact of individuals not being able to get together has had catastrophic results for some.

But life must continue, so the world has had to adjust. Face to face meetings have now become virtual chats over the internet. Numerous platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom allow people to connect through a computer.

Older generations who would not usually make use of technology in this way have been left with no choice but to learn. Adult children have made laptops and tablets available to their elderly parents to check-in on them regularly.

Working from Home

There were already many professionals who functioned at full capacity working from home. When COVID-19 arrived, there was no need for these individuals to adjust because being in a home office was already the norm.

For others, moving from an office site to a home environment has not been without its challenges. This is especially true for those with young children. If you're one of those employees who work at home with toddlers always under your feet, you've likely had to learn about patience in a whole new way.

Juggling motherhood, household chores, and attending to the children because they aren't able to attend school during lockdown has left some mums with mixed emotions, but it’s a new norm that we have to get used to. 

Online Shopping

A quick trip to the local convenience store has turned into ordering groceries online. Sure, it's convenient, but sometimes getting out of the house for a while helps to clear your head. Now you can't go anywhere without the risk of getting sick.

So many people have promised that they'll never complain about long check-out lines again. Others have stock-piled items they wouldn't usually buy, just to avoid the hassle of the entire process.

The food delivery business has boomed throughout this period, these brave individuals are out on the streets bringing meals to our doors, helping the rest of us stay safe inside.

What About the Children?

Parents the world over are continuously commenting about their newfound respect for school teachers. In the beginning, it was fun to sit with your kids and go through the activities they usually complete each day at school, but the excitement of it all soon turns into frustration.

Let's leave teaching to the educated folk who have a passion for enriching young minds. It's hard enough parenting kids; add on the homeschooling, and you're searching for your sanity more often than before.

Things Will Get Better

All things set aside, most of us have got on with it and managed to make it through the worst of it. Even though we're coming out on the other side and things still seem uncertain, it helps that some restrictions are being relaxed.

A walk outside in the afternoon sunshine is now met with enthusiasm and excitement; it wasn't before. Going back to the office you usually couldn't wait to leave each day is something you now look forward to. It may not all be over yet, but the human race has learned a thing or two about taking things for granted.
