The Cox Plate horse race event is an annual event held at the Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne. It is a prestigious race for horses aged three years and above, existing since 1922. The most recent winner in the tight circuit was Winx, in 2018, after struggling to maintain her three consecutive titles.

Run over a distance of 2,040 meters, the prize money up for grabs amounts to 3.9 million Pounds. The first winner, Violoncello, was announced in 1922, walking away with 1,000 Pounds. One of the reasons this event has become popular is that it falls between the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield and Victoria Derby. Cox Plate 2020

The 2020 Cox Plate event is scheduled for 24th October at Moonee Valley Racecourse; expected to draw global interest in a bigger way than ever before. The event will be preceded by the Group 1 Manikato Stakes on Friday night, the 23rd of October. Last year, 2019, the event happened at 5PM, after clashing with the AFL grand final, which was extended to 4:15 PM. This year, the Cox Plate times have changed, with the event expected to start off at 4:15 PM.

Hosted by the Moonee Valley race Club, it is run over 2040m. 2020’s Ladbrokes Cox Plate Field of the contenders will be announced a week before the race. Each year during spring, the results are known in every late October meeting. Alongside listing the results of the Cox Plate finishing order, the trainer and the jockey of each horse are listed, the margin between each, the starting price and the weight carried.
