How To Make Your Home Look Fantastic For Guests This Christmas

  • Written by: Daily Bulletin

If its your turn to host Christmas this year and you’ve only now realised that your house has become an interior designer’s nightmare, there’s no need to fret – there are a lot of simple things you can do to make your house look incredible come Christmas time so that you can instead focus on preparing for the food on the day. In this article, we take a look at a few simple ways that you can transform your house to wow your guests on Christmas!

Let there be light!

While you’ll likely get some fantastic results if you went took the services of home interior designers in Sydney, there are a lot of great things you can do yourself before you need to bring in the professionals. One of the easiest places to start is by introducing as much natural light as possible into your space. Good use of light can make rooms seem larger than they are, and when it comes to a big family being crammed into a small space, every little bit helps! To introduce more light, take a look at what heavy or dark window coverings that you might have hanging up currently – swapping these out for lighter material (in both the weight and shade sense) can make the space feel much more alive. If you notice that there are still dark pockets that are difficult to illuminate, it’s never a bad idea to put a lamp in the corner, or if you have a small table you can light some candles for an extra Christmassy feel.

Take stock of what you have lying around

It’s very easy to forget how many things you accumulate over time, but taking the time to have a look at all your clutter can give you a much better idea of what needs to go. Creating open spaces ensure guests don’t feel claustrophobic, particularly when you only have a tiny space to work with. If there’s little you can do when it comes to taking things out, you can consider potentially adding mirrors to give the illusion of space – sometimes that’s enough. If during your inspection you realise that you have a lot of outdated bis around the house, such as doorknobs, furniture and ancient wall art, rather than leave things up that are way past their best before date, it might be instead time for an upgrade. Replacing all of these pieces with either modern or vintage options can really transform an entire home – even something as simple as a new shower curtain and soap holder in your bathroom can update the space by twenty years.

Have you forgotten about the front yard?

The last point we have to make is not about the inside, but the outside of your house – although you might spend a lot of time reworking your interior for guests, it’s never a bad idea to take a moment and consider what they’re going to see when they rock up to your house in the first place. Have you mowed the grass, do you need to apply some more paint to shabby door or window frames, or are there lots of old children’s playthings lying around? Spend a few hours tidying in this regard and your guests are sure to be impressed.
