Milford Sound

Right at the top of Fiordland National Park lies Milford Sound, one of the most dazzling spectacles you will ever set your eyes on. Fully accessible by car, you can witness incredible mountain peaks, wild coastal scenery, and miles and miles of blazing blue waters, not to mention the cascading cliff waterfalls. This is truly what New Zealand nature sightseeing is all about, so be sure not to leave the Sound off your destination list.

The Bay of Islands

Consisting of 144 islands, this chain offers hundreds of miles of perfect beaches and amazing hidden coves and bays. Here you will find a wide plethora of marine life such as dolphins, penguins, whales, and jumping marlin. This is a hotspot for boating, hiking, fishing, and good old fashioned beach days. The Bay is absolutely gorgeous in the spring, so make sure to keep it on the top of your list.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing

Right in the center of the North Island, in the midst of the gorgeous Tongariro Nation Park, you will find Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It takes a good day hike to get to the Crossing, but it is worth it to behold the Emerald and Blue Lakes and the snow-capped mountain peaks. If the scenery looks familiar, it is likely that you saw it in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which was filmed in this stunning destination.

Wai-o-tapu

Also on the North Island you can find the simply incredible Wai-o-tapu park. Here you will be able to hike through volcanic landscapes that make it feel like you are hiking across the moon. This is not to mention the soothing geothermal spas that you can soak in after a long day on the paths.

Franz Josef Glacier

One of the top destinations in New Zealand is Westland national Park. This park is known as one of the most accessible parks in the country. You can park and walk right to the tip of Franz Josef Glacier. This massive glacier is left over from the ice age, so you can experience ancient history right under foot with a hike across its gorgeous expanse. Franz Josef is truly the experience of a lifetime and definitely something to add to the to-do list for your trip.

Springtime is the right time to experience New Zealand, and if you keep the above destinations on your list you are sure to have the experience of a lifetime.
