Common marital Issues that Could Cause Divorce

  • Written by: News Company

Marriage is a beautiful affair when couples live in harmony. But no marriage is perfect, and both parties have to deal with different issues now and then. If not tackled rightly, these may lead to divorce. So, the best way to avert a breakup is by learning the marital issues that may cause rifts between couples. There are couples counselling Perth therapists that can help you solve your marriage and family issues amicably.

Here are common marital problems:

1. Sex-related issues

Sex is not the only critical issue in marriage but can be a telltale sign of many other matrimonial matters. Sexual satisfaction plays a crucial role in your marital relationship. Infidelity, frequency and quality of sex are all sources of disharmony in most marriages. Denying your spouse sex to punish them can break your marital bond.

2. Infidelity

An extramarital affair can not only ruin your marriage but also hurt your kids. Cheating can be physical, sexual, emotional and online intimacy. So, whether done online or offline, if it involves another person rather than your spouse, then it's a form of cheating. Although most couples talk things out to save their marriage after the affair, it's best if you avoid it at first. Shun the temptation of another love affair by creating a strong bond with your spouse.

3. Unfulfilled expectations

Everyone gets into marriage with varied expectations, and it's easy to get disillusioned if these aren't met. When this happens, most couples feel displeased with each other, and this can result in conflict.

4. Children

Children are the leading stressors in many marriages. Mostly, couples disagree on discipline, diet, schools, mode of dressing and other parenting issues. Different values and beliefs on how to discipline kids, child care obligations and educational options for kids can accentuate conflict in marriage. Other trivial matters like daycare and changing of diapers can put a strain on the best unions.

5. Family

In-laws and other family members come in handy during times of conflict. But, they can also destroy your marriage. Things like monetary support to extended family members and step-children can leave the other partner dissatisfied. Also, living with relatives is an issue of disagreement among many.

Discuss everything together and learn to co-exist with your extended family. Also, your spouse should come first, and there are instances it would be best to take the backseat and mince your words.

6. Financial issues

Money related issues can ruin your marriage if not tackled properly. In most cases, problems occur when couples have a conflicting mentality and behavior about money. For instance, if you're a spender and the other person is a saver, this can cause disputes. So, it's best to discuss money matters like salary, debts, daily expenses, savings, and joint accounts as a couple and address any issues before they get out of hand.

Conclusion

Couples face various issues each day, and it's best to learn how to address these together. Simple disagreements can lead to divorce if not rightly tackled. Things like finances, sex, in-laws and step kids are all sensitive issues that you should address with sobriety.
