A 3-Pipe Problem: How To Deduce What's Wrong With Your Plumbing

  • Written by: NewsServices.com

As a homeowner, you need to ensure that you keep your home in proper working order. If there is an issue in your home, it’s important that you contact a professional to fix the problem as soon as possible. Not only does addressing issues in your home quickly ensure the issue is resolved but it will also prevent any further damage from occurring as a result of the original fault.

Water damage, in particular, can wreak havoc on a home if it is not dealt with properly. A burst or leaking pipe in your walls or ceiling can cause untold damage to your home, which can be very expensive to repair. If the problem persists without you treating it, you could end up with serious structural damage to your property, which could render your home unsafe to live in. It’s important to be able to recognise the signs of water damage early and understand what could be causing the issue so you can call a plumber in Sippy Downs to take action.

Let’s take a look at some common signs of plumbing issues in your home and what could be causing them.

Knocking Or Rattling Sounds In Your Pipes

If you hear knocking noises when you turn on your sink or take a shower, you could have an issue with your water pressure, or you simply may have loose pipe straps. Low water pressure can be a sign that there is a leak somewhere in your plumbing system and should be investigated by a plumber right away. If your pipe straps are loose you should tighten them right away, as too much vibration could eventually cause a leak.

Discoloured Water

If the water from your taps suddenly becomes discoloured, it could be a sign that there is a problem with your piping. Over time, rust, sulfur and iron can build up in your pipes, which can cause the water to appear a brow, red or yellow colour. If the water is a green or blue colour then the issue is more likely to be due to copper pipes oxidizing because of air trapped in your system. If your water is discoloured, avoid drinking or cooking with it and call a professional to investigate further.

Continual Dripping Noise

A constant dripping noise is not only annoying but can also be a sign of high water pressure in your system. Dripping is often caused by the water pressure becoming too high and a valve breaking in your faucet as a result. This can lead to the deterioration of your bathroom fixtures if it is not dealt with quickly. Always call a plumber in this instance as a dripping noise can also be a sign of leaking pipes which could cause a lot of damage to your property if you fail to address it.

Higher Water Bills Than Normal

Some homeowners might notice that despite using the same amount of water, as usual, their water bill suddenly increases. This is a major red flag that there is a leak or a fault somewhere in your home plumbing system. A higher water bill than normal means more water is coming into your home than usual and if you are not using it, then it is accumulating in your walls, ceiling, or under your floors, damaging your home more and more with each passing day. Be sure to take action quickly, if you notice your water bill skyrocketing all of a sudden.

Take Action Quickly If You Suspect There’s A Plumbing Problem In Your Home

Water damage can be very destructive if it is ignored. A small leak that goes undetected can drip into cracks in the structure of your home for months potentially causing serious damage to your home. If you suspect there’s a plumbing issue in your home, make sure you call a professional right away to make the necessary repairs before the issue gets out of hand.
